ARTIST BIO
“Return to your longing, it will teach you everything.”
- Sue Monk Kidd, The Book of Longings
Mary Grace Wynn, originally from Augusta, GA, returned home after living in Asheville, NC, and attending the University of North Carolina, Asheville, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Her artistic journey began with a dedication to film photography, specifically 35mm and medium format, culminating in her solo exhibition, "Interpretations of a Flexible God", where she explored the intricate connections between humanity and spirituality.
The solitude brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic allowed Mary Grace to delve deeper into her studio practice. With newfound time, she experimented with various methods and mediums, turning her focus to paint and graphite, forming the foundation of her current work.
Her latest pieces explore abstract forms inspired by the organic movement of plants, capturing the delicate beauty of nature through careful color layering and experimentation with opacity.
Mary Grace is also committed to serving her community through mentorship and leadership, currently holding positions on the Board of Directors for Westobou Gallery and serving as Director of Student Ministries at a local Episcopal church. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, spending time with her nieces and nephews, travelling, and exploring nature.
With an enthusiasm to share her recent creations, Mary Grace looks forward to continuing her artistic journey and further exploring the relationship between form, color, and nature in her work.
